UDIA Awards for Excellence
The UDIA (Urban Development Institute of Australia) has developed the Awards for Excellence Programme in order to recognise excellence and innovation in the urban development industry. The programme is one of Australia's most respected and valued, and the prestigious awards are highly sought-after.
Winner - 2012 UDIA National Awards for Excellence
Following on from our three WA awards in 2011, Australand and Port Coogee were proud to also take top honours at the 2012 UDIA National Awards for Excellence. As added recognition for our outstanding commitment to the local industry, Port Coogee was the only award winner from Western Australia. Winners were announced at the national UDIA Conference held in Perth in March. These national awards recognise more than a decade of comprehensive planning and extensive remedial works by Australand to transform the site into a prestigious and environmentally sustainable waterfront residential address. Judges praised the estate's level of town planning detail and its significance to the future of Perth's coastal waterfront.

Environmental Excellence
With Port Coogee, Australand set out a vision of a well designed, compact and connected oceanside community to support a diverse range of housing types in a sustainable urban environment, well integrated with public transport.
We were impressed with processes used to transform a contaminated site into a prestigious residential address, including;
- Remediation of an industrial wasteland, together with the prevention of leaching of hazardous materials into the surrounding waters of Owen Anchorage,
- Protection of the marine environment during construction, and
- Realignment of Cockburn Road to create an accessible public realm at the water's edge.
The magnitude of civil and infrastructure work to create the marina, protect the water quality and make the soil safe was enormous.
Congratulations to Australand for this award.
Residential Development Over 250 Lots
After significant remediation works, protection of the marine environment and the re-alignment of Cockburn Road, Port Coogee is well on its way to becoming home to nearly two thousand dwellings.
The built form will consist of residential housing all the way through to mixed use higher density as part of the Marina Village Master plan, which also integrates the Port Coogee marina and public access to the waterfront.
Congratulations to all involved with Port Coogee.
President's Award
Australand's Port Coogee development is one of Australia's largest coastal marina development projects with an end value nearing two billion dollars. Ultimately the project will consist of over eight hundred house lots, one thousand one hundred apartment units, a three hundred-berth marina and nearly twelve thousand square metres of retail and tourism.
The level of town planning detail, complexity of the noxious site remediation, the dealings with the local Cockburn community and the interface with the marina and public waterfront, showcase this development not only as the signature development for Australand but as a significant part of the future of Perth's waterfront, and for that reason is a fitting recipient of the UDIA President's award.
Congratulations Australand.
